They usually have sharp claws and black fur, with a cream-colored V-shaped mark on the chest. He is a close relative of the American black bear with which he shares a common ancestor of European origin.
The males weigh between 100 and 218 kg and the females between 50 and 125 kg. They tend to grow until they reach lengths that range between 130 and 190 cm long.
